Butterflies and Insects

Last Tuesday morning, I went hiking on Pennsylvania State Gamelands #196 in West Rockhill Township, Bucks County a short distance off of Ridge Valley Road. You can see a post entitled A Snowy Journey of my last visit there. However this morning was a beautiful, warm, sunny summer outing. This post will highlight the beautiful butterflies and insects I saw. The next post being planned will highlight some of the wildflowers and other scenery.

  5. Tim, these pictures are absolutely wonderful. The butterflies are very beautiful. That is a mystery for me how you were able to take pictures of them. They are not sitting still, they are constantly moving. And dragonflies are just amazing. Awesome pictures. I love them very much!!!!!

  6. What is it about butterflies and dragonflies, Tim! Your double-winged dragonflies are beauties...not ones I have seen much, if at all. I really like the 4th image down from the top. Love the colors.

  7. Very nice photography. So far, here in Ohio, we have only had one butterfly and it was here one day and gone the next. My flowers have not done well due to the flooding rains we had this spring.

  9. Very good shots. Most of those we have in CT, but I don't recognize the odd fellow in the fifth shot, sort of a dry leaf with legs and antennae.

  11. Oh ! These dragonflies are incredible and spectacular ! They cannot be real ! Then, the butterflies seem quite normal ! I believe we have almost the same here. The one in the middle is quite elegant, maybe is it a fairy or an elf ?

  13. Thanks, dawn. I love butterflies, too. And the one on the rocks is elegantly designed in patterns that really distinguish itself from the others.

Thanks, flora. But you are doing great photography already with the camera you have. I really enjoyed your photos.

Thanks, judy. Glad you like my banner, too. It's a bit symbolic of how I view life.

Thanks, out on the prairie. Glad you had fun skirting through my blog.

Thanks, kaya. The "secret" to taking those butterfly photos was to use a relatively high shutter speed and take a few more photos than one plans to use.

Thanks, ginnie. I'm glad you enjoyed my shots. And there is something special about butterflies and dragonflies that appeals to our imagination - a view of beauty and freedom together.

Thanks, kirsten. I was excited about getting the dragonfly photos!

Thanks, honest abe. Having good weather does help; but often even with bad weather beauty can be found if one knows how to look for it.

Thanks, nancy. I love taking butterfly pictures.

Thanks, ted roth. I liked the design on the fifth shot even if it sort of looks like a dry leaf. :)

Thanks, sueanne. Glad you enjoyed my shots.

Thanks, marguerite. Glad you enjoyed my photos and the dragonflies are or definite were very real.

Thanks, julie g. Glad you enjoyed visiting my blog. I count a post like this as special.

  15. I like the fourth picture – the orange looking butterflies on the wild white flowers – very pretty. I don’t know butterfly names but I like them. Around here they fly away so quickly that it is hard to take their picture.
