Farm Scenes from Lancaster County, PA

Back on Friday, October 7, my wife and I took a trip out to Lancaster County, PA. Below are some farm scenes from our excursion. Part of this time we were on an Amish wagon ride to an Amish dairy farm. The Amish guide and farmer told us they used gas engine compressers to operate much of the dairy operation and to provide themselves with running water and showers.

  2. I didn't know one could bale hay with horses. How is the baler run usually it is run by the PTO of the tractor. I'm impressed by the ingenuity of the Amish.

  3. Thanks, dawn. One could spend weeks in Lancaster County and still not have been there too long. :)

Thanks, horst in edmonton. I don't know how this baler ran but some Amish will use gas-powered motors on their equipment.

  4. Now that is a beautiful look into our pasts. The Amish make it look so easy and yet we know how hard it is. I am in some selfish way am very happy to be a farmer with modern day equipment making my life much easier. I truly admire the Amish way of life for how they make it work so well. This was a nice trip and I really enjoyed sharing it with you. Beautiful photos. B

  5. Beautiful photos, Tim. Do you ever think what it would be like to live that way today? Must be a hard life, even with the meager conveniences. :)

  8. It looks like you had a great trip. Amazing to see them farm entirely with horse-power, though you did indicate that they are not all so strict. Thanks for sharing.
